Tavia wish to take on more evil roles in modern series

Tavia, who almost became cross-eyed in TVB drama Beyond the Realm Of conscience, wish to continue challenging evil roles, in a modern series.

After receiving the “My Favorite Female Character” award based on the evil role in [Beyond], Tavia wants to continue challenging evil roles, but in a different way, this time in a modern series. She has not been to Malaysia to publicize for a long time. After the major role in [Beyond], she hopes to take on a lighter one, because the costumes in [Beyond] are too heavy. She needs to relax, or else she will turn cross-eyed!

Why cross-eyed? Cheeky Tavia demonstrated how her eyes looked when she is angry, exactly as venomous as Gam Ling, yet got everyone laughing!

A major role will always receive both good and bad comments. When asked about how she regards the negative comments, she humbly replied: “Only with criticisms, will there be improvement. If everybody praises you, you cannot see your faults.”

Love triangle with Steven Ma
Tavia has a healthy image, and is only busy with filming dramas, but she hopes to find time to film a movie. She will be involved in a love triangle with Steven Ma and Michael Tse in the drama [Cupid Stupid], and will be talking more about horoscope. When asked if Tavia believes in horoscope, she replied: “I will read, but do not really care about the daily predictions.” Tavia likes to know herself better: “I prefer reading about horoscope personality and compatibility; sometimes I believe in the predictions too, it is quite accurate!” Currently, she is involved in a series involving obsessions (her first time), but she is not the one with the obsession.”

Clarify that Michael did not pass the ulcer
Tavia clarified that Michael was not the source of the ulcer, when they filmed a kissing scene in the drama [The Morning of Flying Fish in Hanami]. “He is innocent. My body was ‘heaty’ hence there was an ulcer; it had nothing to do with Michael. I passed the ulcer to him instead; it was a joke when I said that he passed to me!”

Endorser of Asia
Endorser of H2O+ for 2 concurrent years, Tavia mentioned that she liked “Body Silk” (product of H2O+) because it has both moisturizing cream and bathing lotion. Applying it on the tail end of her hair, it would have multiple benefits. She has already bought the H2O+ products in Malaysia, waiting to use it when she is back in Hongkong. As to whether she will continue to endorse for the third year, Tavia, who has a glib tongue, looked at her boss and replied:” Of course I will continue, right?” Tavia hopes she can endorse for the whole Asian market and not Malaysia alone.

Synopsis:

How would one’s horoscope be interpreted and affect one’s love life? In the new series, “Shall We State the Case”, Tavia Yeung plays a police. She stated that she felt really heroic when she was in the police uniform. She said: “When I was wearing the uniform, I needed to lift up my chest and hold my waist in. I needed to be fit in order to look good. I felt really mighty and brave.” And in the series, she has a love story with Raymond Lam, but she laughed and said she isn’t afraid that rumors would spread about them two.

Series features:
Everything is rational and logical, but love is different! A professor and police woman start a love story that is both rational and emotional. To make it even more interesting, there will be cases in the series that will be solved using physics. It is a must watch series.

Series Synopsis:
Ging Bok (Raymond Lam) is said to be the youngest and talented physicist. He returned to Hong Kong and became university professor. His good friend, Lo Tin Hang (Kenneth Ma) asked him to help the police solve cases using physics. He successfully helps them, and meets CID officer, Tsui Siu Lai (Tavia Yeung). Nothing can happen in a year’s timespan. But to Tavia Yeung, people’s popularity and statuses are changing through the 365 days, 8760 hours that past. Their visions are also changing. Luckily, all these changes are encouraging.

The turning point for Tavia was last year’s “TVB Anniversary Awards”. She won the “Best Supporting Actress” award with her character as “lo neui” (??) and was considered as the dark horse. Who knew this dark horse would suddenly be heavily promoted by TVB. She became the first female lead for the grand production “Beyond the Realm of Conscience”. In recent years, all artistes who played the antagonist have good luck. Tavia, who has never played the antagonist in her ten years in the entertainment industry, decided to take part as the unscrupulous princess. Her character stands out from the rest and she has plenty of screen time, beating TVB’s #1 sister, Charmaine Sheh. TVB’s target is obvious. It is to promote Tavia Yeung. It is a battle between “sei lai lai,” Sheren Tang and TVB’s “biological sister,” Tavia Yeung. There is also a rumour saying that Kenix Kwok is ready to sign a contract with TVB in exchange for the award.

“Whatever you say, I won’t have any pressure,” Tavia said calmly. ( Not fighting for an award? ) “It’s best if Sheren wins it. I’ll be happy too if Kenix wins it. Charmaine might be winning it at the end, haha..”

In less than 3 seconds, she suddenly changed her mind and said: “But if I answer it that way and TVB finds out, they’ll think I don’t have motivations and then I’m doomed. I’m fighting! I’m fighting! I am fighting!”

The Result of “Lo Neui”

“Yiu Gam Ling” from “Beyond the Realm of Conscience” is actually Tavia’s first antagonist role in her ten years in the entertainment industry. We all can see she is a role model under TVB’s management. The concept before, was that if you wanted to become popular, you must be good people doing good deeds (in the series) . It is best to have a happy ending too. It doesn’t matter if it is old-fashioned, as long as your image is clean and children don’t learn bad things.

The problem is, Tavia has been a good person for ten years. She filmed almost 50 series. Which character do you remember?

Besides “lo neui” from “Moonlight Resonance, that is. It’s still “lo neui,” I guess.

“The character “lo neui” did, in fact, changed my world. I don’t know how to describe the feeling, it’s not that everyone changed their opinions about me, or their attitudes.. of course, there’s a lot of people who recognize me when I go out and sometimes call me “Ah Yuet”. I am happy, but the most biggest change is my vision. It’s like it suddenly became broader. I have a bright future ahead of me.”

From second lead to first lead, seeing things differently is only natural. For example, she was placed at the front right in the middle. Compared the last year’s position (3 rows from the front), this year’s position is better. The camera man can see her better.

When it’s time for you to get promoted, even if you don’t work hard, you can still become big. You’re only working!

“After “Heart of Greed” aired, I was actually disappointed. “Dai Bao,” “Dai Kai” and “Sai Kai” were always on the newspaper and became hot topics. I want to be talked about too, even if it’s bad. But in the end, all they said was that my hairstyle looked nice. Haha.. I was supposed to be in it, but I feel so left out. Good thing the series did not give up on me, otherwise I wouldn’t be me today.

Yes, without “lo neui” there wouldn’t be a “Gam Ling”. From what I’ve observed, TVB actually cares about this actress from training class. Even though she started out with small roles, TVB already gave her the leading role in 2002. Why was she disappointing? There’s a lot of possibilities. It could be her roles, or maybe audiences just don’t like her. Maybe she doesn’t have any luck. It’s hard to promote her when audiences know she exists, but don’t look forward to watching her.

Her chance came. “Lo neui” made Tavia very popular. TVB finally can promote her. They recruited #1 fa dans and siu sangs like Charmaine Sheh, Moses Chan, Kevin Cheng, Michelle Yim and Susanna Kwan to look after Tavia. Before they even started filming, there were rumous that TVB decided to give the Best Actress award to Tavia Yeung.

“Look after me? I don’t think so. Anniversary awards are usually this grand. I don’t think the series is created for me. It’s just that my character is the biggest villain, which is why it caught so many attention. When I found out that I was playing “Gam Ling”, I was very happy. I’m no different than the old Tavia Yeung if I played “Lau Sam Ho”. I told TVB that I wanted a breakthrough role and now I finally get one.”

Hard to be a Villain

Even if you waited for the chance, you have to know how to use it. The series is half finished, but everyone thinks Tavia is not evil enough.

“It has not reached the climax yet. When I was filming, I was afraid that I was too evil, and the audience cannot accept Tavia Yeung hurting people. So I didn’t have the guts to go act all the way. But Producer Mui wanted me to go all the way. There was a few scenes were I had NG-ed. The funny thing is, my manager told me that if anyone called me “Yiu Gam Ling” on the streets, that I look back, or else someone might chuck eggs at me. But I want to be yelled at when I go out. It proves that I did well and the audience is into it.

Even though Tavia Yeung isn’t a gentle lady, it is difficult for her to yell out load.

“Charmaine and I have a lot of arguing scenes. I have to ask Michelle and Susanna. I already learned so much when I was filming “Moonlight Resonance” with them!”

“Gam Ling” was good but turned evil. Her emotions were unstable. It is harder to do emotional scenes. Tavia said that when she couldn’t get into her character, she would be disappointed.

“I remember there was a scene where Charmaine stole the position of Head of Jewelry from me. The director wanted me to act like it was really unfair to me. I had to let tears from my right eye out first, use my hands to wipe it, stop the tears, and then let the tears from my left eye out. I had to keep on trying because the director wasn’t satisfied. I tried all night until I had to try again the next day. I was disappointed and didn’t know what to do. You know I can’t control how my tears roll. I just had to keep trying. Luckily, it was OK at the end, but there was a lot of NG. I cried until my eyes were swollen.

Charmaine is really good at it. She cries and stops whenever she wants. She’s really calm and professional.”

Since we’re talking about Charmaine, why not bring up her rumored boyfriend, Kevin Cheng? Tavia knows best if the two had something going on during filming.

“I didn’t notice. I don’t have many scenes with Kevin. I eat with Charmaine almost everyday, unless she finished eating with me and then goes with “whoever”, that I don’t know. Haha..”

Tavia is well-known for keeping secrets, that’s why she has a lot of male and female friends in the entertainment circle. But maybe it’s because people think she is less aggressive and isn’t harmful, thus no one is jealous or comparing themselves with her. Still remember “Angels of Mission”? That time, there were rumours saying that Charmaine and Sonija Kwok were bullying Shirley Yeung. People who are nice are usually the ones getting bullied.

“There’s a lot of people who said Charmaine and I won’t become friends, and that she will bully me. But she is actually a straightforward person. We’re both people who say whatever is in our minds. We’re friends. She told me to buy her a present when I’m going to Hokkaido to film.”

It’s very simple. Charmaine Sheh, who is TVB’s #1 sister, doesn’t need to fight for fame with you. In their eyes, you both are at different levels.This is the time to appear like she has style of a great general.

Sheren Tang for Best Actress

The people around Tavia tend to hate that “iron cannot become steel”. You cannot find the names of her competitors or enemies in her dictionary. Even though she became a hot favorite for the “Best Actress” award, she appeared careless. Does she want to win it?

“Sheren Tang is the best actress in my heart. She should’ve won the award a long time ago. She is a great actress and everyone likes her. If she wins, everyone would clap loudly. Even though everyone is saying I have a chance, it doesn’t affect my mood. You might think that I don’t care, and even a bit emotionless, but if you think of it another way, it’s just because my EQ is high. I don’t give myself too many pressure.”

There were rumors about Kenix Kwok using the contract in exchange for an award. It seems to be getting more complicated.

“I don’t believe TVB will trade awards for contracts. If you don’t have strong acting skills, the audience would complain. What’s so bad if Kenix won the award? That’s double the happiness for Kenix, and it also means her baby is good luck.”

Are you destroying your own status?

“It’s not that I don’t have confidence in myself, it’s just that I must plan for the worst. Even if I don’t win any awards that night, I will stay happy and watch the winner on stage.”

To Tavia, acting is just a job. Her responsibility is to do a good job and earn a living. She is like a public worker.

“I admit I am missing an ambition. My manager told me that there was a job that was almost confirmed, but then I suddenly wasn’t a part of it. I then thought to myself “yes! I finally can take a break!”. This carefree feeling and the requirements for my job don’t mix together, but I am happy! I remember I just graduated from training class and I was responsible for bringing out the awards. Of course, the focus was on Gallen Lo, but when I received the call, telling me to do it, I was really happy. I found out that the others really hated the job, and I was the only one that would smile. If you do something wrong, someone will know. I then realized that you have to do your part of your job in the entertainment industry.”

Her part of the job is much different than a common artiste. We all have a consensus. Gossips, rumors, filming and singing is a package.

“There have been some media who wanted make some fake news with me, it’s not that I don’t want to. It’s that I don’t have the guts to. I am actually a chicken. I don’t know whether to look at the camera or not when they want me to pretend to be photographed. What if the readers found out I was faking it if I look at the camera? That would be embarrassing. Not doing it is better than doing it.”

To be honest, it is a miracle that Tavia have this achievement today.

Soft Spot

Tavia’s soft spot is actually singing. Actually, I’ve never heard her singing voice before, so I don’t know how bad it actually is.

“It’s actually a psychological problem. If it wasn’t to earn a living, I wouldn’t have the guts to walk on stage and sing.”

She said her title song is Sammi Cheng’s “Forever Beauty” and Teresa Teng’s “I Only Care About You”. The other two songs are still uncertain.

“I can memorize a lot of lines, but I can never remember lyrics. I’ve sang “Forever Beautry” 97000 times, but I am still anxious. I would be so nervous and would have to go to the washroom so many times before going on stage. Someone told me to release an album, but I shook my head without thinking it over.”

Her soft spot is singing, our soft spot is listening to actors/actresses who don’t know how to sing.

Good thing our ears don’t have to be punished once more.

Raymond Lam & Tavia Yeung & Kenneth Ma [Shall We State The Case] Who is Who’s Ideal Lover?

The first news articles about this series had already been described as the “Hong Kong version of Detective Galileo”, even if it is or is not a remake of the Japanese series, the fact that it is targeting the collaboration of Raymond Lam, Tavia Yeung and Kenneth Ma is already worth anticipating. The trio’s last collaboaration was seven years earlier in the series, “Eternal Happiness”! The youngsters of that time have now all gone through and experienced adulthood and can lament that time flies.

Said to be similar to “Detective Galileo”, the producer in fact says that it is merely the characterisation of the leads that are similar, a physicist male lead and a newcomer police officer female lead. Raymond’s detective character is always dressed in a dress suit, with a tie or bow, all combining with his handsome aura for a perfect match. Once filming begins, he has an air of coolness that sets him apart from normal people and Raymond’s dialogue is full of physics terms and concepts. This is pitiful for Raymond, who in his school days was only mediocre at physics and to have to memorize these complex terms wihich are totally foreign to him. It seems that the title of “NG King” may be heading towards him, add oil Raymond!

Tavia, however, has a more relaxed and comfortable time filming, such that you really want to tell her, “this is work, not play”, but each time you see her happy face, you want to join in with the fun too. With her long hair tied in a ponytail and a wardobe of always fashionable checkered shirts, Tavia’s look of a cool policewoman comes right out. Standing next to Raymond, the other anticipated point of the series comes out, that is Raymond Lam and Tavia Yeung are finally playing a couple, since the fateful separation in “Twin of Brothers”. This time, both play male and female lead in this relaxed modern love story, it’s anticipated that they will finally end up together this time round.

But how is that we have yet to see the romantic sweet scenes and we already see the sad break up scene? Detective Lam and Sergeant Tavia were “negotiating” at the piers but eventually it still ended in a break up. Tavia, who is known for her crying scenes, cried extremely professionally, and then inhaled a large amount of the sea water in the air, causing her throat to be both itchy and hurt. Detective Lam, you really are very heartless, really paralleling the heartless and emotionless attitude of Masaharu Fukuyama’s character in Detective Galileo. However, once filming stops, Tavia wipes dry her eyes and blows her nose before returning to the smiling carefree Tavia and jumps down from the box. It turns out that to adjust to Raymond’s height, Tavia must use a wooden box. Though this scene is very saddening and heartbreaking, but the producer has opened up and said that the series is all about love and romance and so I (the reporter) trust the producer’s word and anticipate the scenes to come.

How about our playboy cop Kenneth Ma? Like Officer Tavia, he also has to suffer under the changing weather to arrest criminals and doesn’t have Professor Lam’s luxury of peacefully enjoying the air condition. However, Kenneth has another extra luxury! Just seeing him surrounded by beauties of different countries, it can already be observed that he is enjoying alot of attention from the opposite gender, not to mention that he has intimate scenes with model Lisa S. Though Officer Tavia has a tough time, in the end she gets her happy ending. Professor Lam recieves a Physics award at some award ceremony and still in his tuxedo attire, rushes to Officer Tavia to propose. It seems that the previous depressing breakup scene was just a small climax. But it seems that Tavia is a little afraid to accept Professor Raymond’s marriage proposal, she’s agraid she will be hunted down by the latter’s fans! So it’s better off to be
“brothers” after all.

In this generation, for anyone that has computer, can become a judge themselves. The hot topic now revolves around criticisms about Lau Sam Ho. As for Tavia Yeung, she is the hot favorite for Best Actress this year and will compete with Sheren Tang.

“I support Sheren Tang. I hope that she will get the award. If I win, I will be happy too. If I do not win, I hope that evil imperial concubine can open a breakthrough road for me. “

Tavia Yeung is not as excited as expected.

“Actually, I’m not that ready yet. Will it be too fast to win Best Actress award after entered this field for 10 years? Even Louise Lee and Michelle Yim only received the awards after working for 30 years. Now all the news is created by media. I don’t know what company is thinking. The best is faces everything with normal attitude. Even if I never win the award, I will not be too disappointed.”

From last time till now, Tavia Yeung did not hope for instant success. As for the Fa Dan now, most of them came out from beauty pageant. She knew she had her own limited potentials and chose to enter training class instead and climbed up step by step. She graduated in 1999 and started from no name, no surname and no dialogues. Her early jobs scope included bringing out awards for Gallen Lo, who was the Best Actor that year.

“I thought that nobody would notice me at that time. However, the next day, I received a praising call from Artiste Department. It seemed that everyone did not like that job except for me that was smiling whole night.”

The world is fair. There are not many people like Tavia that did not mind to do a small job like this. Tavia Yeung knew her own position since last time. She does all her best in her all her jobs and leaves everything to fate.

“Outsiders always say that TVB will have favoritisms towards those contracted artistes. I wish to say that company will know whether we put efforts in our works or not. If we never put efforts, company will not support us blindly.”

Tavia Yeung received “Most Improved Actress” award in 2003 and “Best Supporting Actress” award last year. She seldom takes leave and films at least 4 series per year. She is the female artiste that films most series after Charmaine Sheh. When asked her to compare [Beyond] and [War and Beauty], she couldn’t give an answer.

“I never watched “War and Beauty” before. Even “Rosy Business”, I only watched 1 to 2 episodes only.”

Actually first line artistes really do not have time to watch series. They will keep on filming series and will only see results after few years. In the group photos in TVB Anniversary Lighting Ceremony, Tavia’s position is increasing year by year. Last year, she stood at 2nd line accompanied with Myolie Wu and Christine Ng. “I’m very happy to shake hands with Uncle Six. Since I entered this field, I only shook hands with him twice time. The previous time was when I received 10 years recognition award. It is nice to see a 102 years old man that is still so healthy and energetic.”

There are advantages and disadvantages. Seldom appear on newspaper means that audiences might forget her. Last time Charmaine Sheh who organized a birthday party could appear on few magazines’ main page and Fala Chen became a hot topic amongst audiences after wearing bra only in series. What about Tavia Yeung?

“Each time only happens on other peoples. Whenever reporters asked me to reply a few words, then I would appear at the dialogue box with the reports. Maybe you all can just treat me as not qualified enough to compete. I prefer quietness.”

If want to compete, it would happen 10 years ago and would not wait until now. Tavia Yeung is qualified enough to compete but her character is lazy to compete. She does not have enemies and her best friends are Christine Ng and Claire Yiu.

“I’m also close with Fala Chen. We will talk about our own problems. Everyone said that she appeared bitchy, but how come they all catch her sexy angle to photograph her? This is unfair for her.

Tavia Yeung defended her good friend. Really does good deeds, speaks good words and shows good will’.

“Actually as an artiste, who doesn’t want to climb to high position? If need to use strategy and means to do it, can we hide it? At last whether audiences accept you or not, will depends on what you have done. I rather become a ordinary artiste and will be respected in the future.”

Tavia Yeung belongs to the minority artistes that satisfied of her current position. Maybe it is due to her family background. She grew up in Shatin estate house. Her father passed away when she was 2 years old. Her mother re-married again after that. That time she was 7 years old and she called her step-father, “Father”.

“Father was a very conservative person. He loves us but he would not show it out and would do a lot of things for us. He was the one that cooked for our family. He knew my favorite food and always went to Mongkok to buy and cooked for me.”

Her step-father passed away in 2005. Tavia Yeung was filming “Land Of Wealth” at that time. She purposely took a few days leave in order to see her father for the last time.

“I feel regretful. I have not earned much money for him to lead a comfortable life. Now I will be filial towards my mother. My wish is that I can take my mother to go for vacation every year. Hope that I can take her to travel around the world.”

Earn money is Tavia’s biggest goal. She bought a property at Tseung Kwan O a few years back and now she wish to buy a bigger house.

“Last time there were many chances to earn extra income. However, there are newcomers now that are younger and sexier. If compared to us that are old, ugly and not qualified for sexiness, haiz, no chance!”

“I really envy my sister that can get married and give birth. She has a happy and blissful family. My niece is ½ years old now and very cute. But I don’t have time to think about my own marriage yet. I hope that I can work for another 10 years. If I’m still single at that time, at least I don’t have to lose both marriage and career. Moreover, marriage needs a partner!”

Before this, Tavia was rumoured with Lam Wai Kit and Yeung Ji Kiu. Regarding love relationship, Tavia blushed and felt shy.

“My love condition is blank now. Blank but comfortable! Rich (fu guai) boyfriend? No, the pants are very expensive?” [Pant expensive is also “fu guai” in terms of pronounciation]

It seems like many artistes are approaching 30 years old this year. For female artistes, there are Myolie Wu, Kate Tsui, Bernice Liu, Niki Chow, Ella Koon. For male artistes, there are Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Amigo Chui, Jay Chou, etc. Even artistes will also grow up. “I always tell myself : I’m 30 years old already! I will get used it it if I keep on reminding myself.” Tavia Yeung will treat it as a new start for her. “But as you say, Lam Fung also 30 years old? I really don’t feel that. I always feel that he is much older than that.” All the artistes stated in the list above have gone through their own tough times. If compare, whether there are awards or not, Tavia Yeung definitely is a lucky person.
